Miley Cyrus always stands good on her promise. Exactly 1 year after hinting that new music video was on its way, the singer released the first track, Midnight Sky, from her forthcoming album She Is Miley Cyrus.
Before her new song could make way to the headlines, the news of Miley’s split with Cody Simpson broke the internet. And now, Midnight Sky becomes the theme song for the Disney star alum to herald in her new singlehood era.
Her new track comes just hours after news broke that she had split with Cody after 10 months of dating. Just before her single dropped, Miley told her fans on Instagram Live that the pair were “individually working on” themselves.

However, Cyrus also hinted on the fact that she will still remain friends with Cody and asked fans not to be surprised if they are spotted getting pizza together next week.
Talking about her new track Midnight Sky, it feels like Miley is bidding farewell to all her past loves, Liam Hemsworth, Kaitlynn Carter and now apparently Cody Simpson.
According to reports in Hollywood Life, Miley has herself admitted that the fallout of her divorce from Liam Hemsworth played a role in the track. “I felt like my story and my narrative had kind of been told for me over the past year. Obviously, I went through an extremely public breakup and, even more than that, a divorce, and with someone that I had been with for ten years. That narrative and that experience of ten years were told for me by one day from the eyes of a helicopter.”
But the singer has made it clear in the song that Midnight Sky is not a love song, its Miley’s freedom song with the singer declaring in the chorus “I was born to run, I don’t belong to anyone/ Oh no, I don’t need to be loved by you.”
