WWE had something bizarre for fans in the form of Extreme Rules’ ‘Eye For An Eye’ match. It saw Seth Rollins going one on one with Rey Mysterio. Just like the weird stipulation, the post-match reactions were weird too.
We saw Seth Rollins defeating Rey Mysterio by damaging his eye. But now, some shocking reality behind the match’s ending is coming out, which is as bizarre as the stipulation. It’s hard to believe but the end of the brutal match had a connection with Rey’s contract signing, so far as reports suggest.
As we all know, Rey Mysterio’s contract with WWE is expired and during the last couple of months, there were strong speculations of him joining AEW. Surprisingly, he hasn’t signed it yet with WWE and it’s the very reason, the 619 machine had to suffer defeat. On the positive side, there are high chances that Rey might just stay under the same brand, which is why all the reports stating his eye is fine, are being published by the company. Got it?

Recently, Dave Meltzer spoke to Wrestling Observer Radio. He said, “Rey Mysterio, which is the other question everyone has, he has not signed. My gut is still, as it’s been all along that he will, but it has not happened yet. So, that finish was because he had not signed. As I mentioned like if he doesn’t sign, the obvious finish is that he has to lose, and if he does sign, the obvious finish is that he has to win. But the reason that they gave that open-ended thing that we may save his eye is in case he does sign. That’s their out.”
