What makes DC films more appealing are its villains and one of them is Joker. In several Batman films, we have seen talented actors play the evil clown of crime. From Jack Nicholson to Heath Ledger, the actors portrayed the villain spectacularly on the big screen.
Talking about Heath Ledger in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight (2008), his performance as Joker is terrific and scary. The film also starred Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne aka Batman. What made Ledger’s character terrifying was the small instances in which he was scared the sh*t out of people unexpectedly. In our DC Trivia #22 today, we will tell you how the late actor had improvised one of the best scenes in the film.
Heath Ledger was known for improvisation in films. He utilised this quality to its best in this Nolan starrer. The creepy clapping scene in the jail was not a part of the script. The Oscar-winner improvised it during the shoot. In this scene, police officers in the room applaud when Gary Oldman’s Jim Gordon gets promoted as Commissioner for arresting Joker. Suddenly, we see the evil clown of the crime slowly clapping for Gordon. As his claps get louder, everyone baffled as they couldn’t process what was happening.

When Heath started clapping inside the jail, Christopher Nolan liked it and told his crew to continue filming. The camera was focused on the Joker and the sequence made it to the film. Well, who thought one clever act by the actor will turn out to be one of the iconic scenes of the film.
