Batman & Robin: George Clooney Film’s Screenwriter Says They’re Sorry For Making A Bad Film!

Batman & Robin starring George Clooney, Chris O’Donnell, and Alicia Silverstone released 23 years ago. Directed by Joel Schumacher, the film received a lot of criticism from the audience. It has been 23 years since the film released, but DC Comics fans are still not ready to let go of what they saw.

Despite having a talented cast like George Clooney, Chris O’Donnell, and Alicia Silverstone, Batman & Robin was poorly received. Now the film’s screenwriter Akiva Goldsman has apologised for not meeting the expectations. Along with this 1997 release, Akiva also wrote the screenplay for Batman Forever (1995). But the latter received a good response.

In an interview with Collider, Akiva Goldsman said, “As for Batman & Robin, that one just confused me. I mean, we didn’t mean for it to be bad. I swear, nobody was like, ‘This will be bad.’ We were really thinking. Here’s the irony: There was a reel that was put together halfway through [filming] where it actually looked dark in an interesting way. It just is what it is and I’m sorry. I think we’re all sorry.”

Almost a decade later, after the backlash received for Batman & Robin, DC hired Christopher Nolan to make films on Bruce Wayne’s character. Nolan made a successful Batman trilogy that starred Christian Bale.

Up next, director Matt Reeves is going to come up with a standalone film starring Robert Pattinson. Titled as The Batman, everyone is curious to see how the Twilight actor nails the role of the caped crusader. About Matt’s adaptation, the Batman & Robin writer screenwriter said, “Matt Reeves, I think, is so insanely talented and I think Robert Pattinson is terrific. For me, the key to this is Matt. Have you ever seen the pilot of Felicity? Matt directed it, J.J. [Abrams] wrote it, and it hums in this extraordinary way. From then on, I have admired Matt as a director. I just think he’s literate, he’s articulate emotionally, he’s can cinematically virtuosic. For me, I can’t wait to see.”
