After much chaos and protests, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmaavat’ finally released on Jan 25 this year. In spite of the ongoing protests, the movie has been minting good money at the box office.
The first week collections are here and the total domestic business of the movie is Rs 149.50 crore nett approx. The movie has an extended first week and that should take the numbers above Rs 160 crore nett mark. (Also Read: Padmaavat movie review: This visual spectacle with rich performances will win you over)
Well, if compare this movie with his earlier hit flicks ‘Bajirao Mastani’ and ‘Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram Leela’, then the first week business is way ahead of the two movies. Ram Leela which released in 2013 did a business of Rs 73.87 crore nett in its first week, while ‘Bajirao Mastani’ which released in 2015 did a business of Rs 84.36 crore in the first week. Clearly, ‘Padmaavat’ has raced much ahead of these movies and that too with the most threatening controversies around it which even resulted in a limited release.
